Privacy policy

1. Who is responsible

Sweep is published by Epsilon Developers, an independent software publisher run by Satyam Kushwaha and Anurag Mahajan, based in India. Questions about this policy, a request about your data, or a complaint, go to contact@epsilondevelopers.xyz.

This policy covers the Sweep Android application (com.epsilon.sweep). It does not cover any other app or website you may reach from a link inside it.

Google decides how the advertising and purchase data described below is used, under its own privacy policy.

2. What stays on your phone

The following never leaves the device:

• Sensor readings. Magnetic field values, camera frames used by the lens and infrared checks, the list of devices found on Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, and everything derived from them.
• Results for the room you are checking. Held in memory only, and cleared when you start a new room or close the app.
• Your settings. Theme, sensitivity, sound and vibration, whether full-screen ads are allowed, and any unlock earned by watching an advertisement. Stored in the phone’s encrypted preference storage.
• Reports you create. A PDF is written to this phone only, goes somewhere else only if you choose to share it, and is deleted the next time Sweep opens.
• Photographs you attach to a report. Taken with your phone’s own camera app, copied into Sweep’s private storage rather than your gallery, and deleted when you start a new room, when you remove them, or the next time Sweep opens. They are excluded from phone backups.

Camera frames used by the checks are analysed as they arrive and discarded. No check creates a photo or video file; the only images Sweep holds are the ones you attach yourself.

3. What is sent, and to whom

• Advertising. The free version shows advertisements through Google AdMob. To choose, deliver and measure them, and to detect fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK inside Sweep collects your device’s advertising ID and app set ID, your IP address, from which an approximate location can be worked out, which ads you see and tap and when the app opens, and diagnostic information about how the app and the SDK perform. It does not receive anything Sweep measures. This goes to Google over an encrypted connection, and Google explains how it uses information from apps that show its ads at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Purchases. Buying or restoring Pro goes through Google Play’s billing system. Google handles the payment, and your card and billing details are never seen by us. The app asks Google Play, on your phone, whether your account owns Pro. Google Play gives us a record of each order: its number, date and price, and the country, state and postcode Google uses for tax. We use it to help with a purchase and to keep our accounts.
• Devices on your Wi-Fi network. The Wi-Fi check sends messages to other devices on the network your phone is joined to: it checks which addresses answer, tries the ports cameras commonly use, and sends the standard discovery requests that printers, televisions and cameras reply to. These messages name the app only as Sweep, carry nothing about you, and do not leave that network.
• Sponsored screens for our own apps are drawn from creative bundled inside the app. They send nothing and work offline.
• Email. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include, and use them only to reply.

Sweep has no analytics or crash-reporting service of its own, and collects no usage statistics. If you have allowed your phone to share usage and diagnostic data with Google, Google Play may show us reports of Sweep crashing or freezing, with the phone model and Android version but nothing that tells us who you are.

We do not sell personal information, and share none with anyone beyond the services named here. Google may process advertising and purchase data outside your country, including in the United States, under the safeguards described in its privacy policy.

4. Permissions

• Camera. Required by the lens and infrared checks. Frames are read live and never stored.
• Nearby devices. Lets the Bluetooth check hear devices announcing themselves in the room. The app declares this scan as one that is never used to derive location.
• Location, on Android 11 and older only. Those versions will not return Bluetooth scan results without it. Sweep never reads your position, and the permission is not declared at all on Android 12 and newer.
• Wi-Fi state and multicast. Let the Wi-Fi check ask devices on the network you are joined to what they are.
• Internet. Used only for advertising and purchases.
• Advertising ID. Lets the ads SDK read the identifier described above.
• Google Play billing. Lets the Pro purchase go through Google Play.
• Vibration. Used for the sweep feedback buzz.

Refusing any permission disables the checks that need it. Nothing else stops working.

5. Advertising choices

Where the law requires consent for personalised advertising, Sweep shows Google’s consent form before any ad loads, and the choice can be changed later under Settings, Advertising, Ad privacy choices. Without consent, Google shows only ads that are not personalised to you.

Android also lets you reset or delete your advertising ID at any time in the system settings. Buying Pro removes every advertisement, and with it every ad request.

If you live in a US state whose privacy law counts personalised advertising as selling or sharing personal information, you can opt out by deleting your advertising ID, or under Ad privacy choices where Sweep shows it.

6. How data is protected

Everything Sweep keeps is in its private storage on the phone, which Android does not let other apps read. Settings and unlocks are encrypted with a key held by Android’s keystore.

Sweep’s storage is excluded from Google Drive backups and from transfers to a new phone, so none of it leaves that way.

Everything Google’s advertising and billing services send travels over encrypted connections. No storage or connection is perfectly secure, which is why Sweep keeps so little.

7. Children

Sweep is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13. We do not knowingly process any data from a child. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, write to contact@epsilondevelopers.xyz and we will delete it.

8. Keeping and deleting data

Sweep deletes its own data as it goes: room results when you start a new room or close the app, and reports and attached photographs as described above. Settings and unlocks stay until you clear the app’s storage or remove the app, which deletes everything Sweep stored.

Nothing is uploaded to us, so there is nothing of yours on a server of ours to delete. We keep an email only as long as it takes to deal with it, and a purchase record for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Google keeps advertising data for the periods set out in its own privacy policy.

Reports you have already shared elsewhere are outside our reach, and yours to delete where you sent them.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, including the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, India and several US states, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or move personal data, to object to or restrict its use, and to withdraw consent at any time.

As Sweep holds none of your data on any server, these rights are mostly exercised on the device itself or through Google, which controls the advertising and purchase data described above. Write to contact@epsilondevelopers.xyz if you need help with any of this, or to make a complaint, and we will answer within one month.

You can also complain to your data protection authority. In India that is the Data Protection Board of India.

10. Legal basis in the EEA and UK

Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies, Google’s consent form asks before the ads SDK uses your device’s identifiers or personalises ads, and that consent is the basis for both. Without it, Google shows only limited ads that do not rely on them.

A Pro purchase is handled to carry out the contract you make when you buy it, and keeping its record meets our legal duties on tax and accounts. An email is answered because you asked us to.

Sweep makes no automated decision about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it and the updated version ships in the next release of the app. Continuing to use Sweep after an update means the new version applies.
